Alice Springs Series
This series of artworks were drawn when living in Alice Springs. I was overcome with the colour and space of the desert and spent my days down on all fours watching the ants with their amazing colours on their backs or spiders of amazing shapes, collecting nuts or bindies or in awe at the snakes, lizards and birds visiting me on a daily basis. We had camels living next door and birds of every shape and size come to the garden every day. We visited places where there were rock wallabies, kangaroos, dingoes in the wild and I encountered all this everyday. There was so much happening in what we are led to believe is an arid, desolate place and I drank it up with enthusiasm. I drew everything that was around me and wasn’t too concerned about whether it was entirely indigenous to where I lived because it was part of my life despite that. This series shows the colours, flora and fauna of the Australian Outback as I saw it. There are thirteen paintings in this series.
