The Alice Springs Series
At Home
This painting depicts what life was like where I lived. It shows the trees, birds, animals, insects and plants which were around our home. It shows the zebra finches when they came to drink from our pond first thing in the morning and the honey eaters which would come at dusk. It shows the camels who lived next door and the Black Cockies that flew overhead every morning, a Kite, Butcher Bird and Ring-necked Parrot that lived around us. And of course the amazing coloured ants.
BlueDreaming
This painting shows the leaves and flowers from the vine that grew around our lounge area. It was such a lovely delicate flower softening such a harsh environment.
Budding
There was a vine I used to see often around our camp and I just loved the way it’s flowers hung and the beauty of the buds before it blossomed. These flowers are seen repeated in a number of my drawings and paintings. The purple flowers were single dainty flowers which used to grow in odd places around the property.
Desert Flowers
My favourite flowers to draw combined with complementary coloured flowers creates one of my favourite paintings. The little purple flowers had a silvery edge to them which I quite enjoyed adding to the design.
Entwined
One of my earlier designs showing the beauty of the intricate patterning I loved so much from the Islamic style art at Alhambra. Possibly my favourite.
Gazing Up
This painting was my very first design while living in Alice Springs and shows the tree that canopied our living area (as we lived outside it was quite literally our roof) before we moved to another area. I used to look up through its branches and once it flowered I just had to draw its beauty.
Simplicity
This is a very small design depicting mainly the intricate pattern I loved of the Islamic art. As the name suggests, it is very simple.
NSW Series
Tree Heart
The Tree Heart was created as a reaction to the pain felt by people going through many types of grief due to family grief, loss and mental illness. It is meant as a healing heart and the knowledge ‘you are not alone’.
Sun
Daylight
This painting shows the flowers which hung from a nearby tree which I linked with little single flowers which would grow up under it. I liked the lighter colours of the leaves from the yellow flowers.
Early Morning
A small design incorporating my favourite flower and a very well fed Ring-neck Parrot who would come to our garden everyday for a drink and feed.
Fleeting
This image just shows a section of the painting. It is repeated and has nine flowers in total making the print a narrow piece.
Night Climbing
A painting of looking through vines at night. This design is quite different from most of the others as it is not a repeated pattern nor is it symmetrical. I quite enjoyed the freedom it brought me while drawing it.
Skyward
The same blossom from Gazing Up and just another view through the branches of the tree, this time just looking at the soft ends of the branches and depicted at a different time of day. A little bit ‘Starry Night’ - esque!
Visitors
This design incorporates what I encountered daily and during my time in Alice Springs and shows the colours of the amazing sky at sunrise. We visited a waterhole and saw Rock Wallabies bounding gracefully up and down the rock face. As I was drawing the design I had a baby Lace Monitor get caught in our garden and I had to rescue him and I had a Brown Snake slide between my feet as I was trying to decide what to draw in the bottom circle - naturally he had to be put into the design!
Tree
This image depicts the nature all around me in our new home in Northern NSW.
